Clayton Allan Johnson, age 83, of Woodstock, Ga., passed away from complications of Alzheimers on April 21, 2012, at home surrounded by his loving family. Clayton was born in Newport, Tn., on August 3, 1928. He joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17, and served for 27 years, achieving the rank of Lieutienant Commander. His career in the Navy included service on the U.S.S. Sperry, based in San Diego, California. He also served on submarines, including The U.S.S. Sealion and The U.S.S. Tinosa. He also taught ROTC at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, while in the Navy. After retiring from the Navy, Clayton wrote a humorous newspaper column full of anecdotes about life. He also enjoyed writing humorous poems, bowling, and gardening. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, who will be missed for his kind and loving spirit. Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Bertha Johnson, his son Ronnie, his sister, Wanell, and his brother, R.A. Johnson. Survivors include his loving wife Ophelia, his three daughters Jeanee Christ, Leanna Nalley, and Deanna Marsh, two stepdaughters, Jan Giles and Kay Morrison, his sisters Wymaline Gray and Pearl Gentry, and his grandchildren, Chelsea and Jana Michelson, Clay and Chad Giles, Rebakah and Brian Christ, Quinn and Devon Nalley, and Andrea and Alec Marsh, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held 12:00 noon Friday April 27, 2012 From the Saint Clement’s Episcopal Church. Father Jamie Stutler will officiate. Interment will be in Georgia National cemetery with Military Honors. Family will receive friends on Thursday 6PM – 8PM. Family request in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzhiemers association. The Caring Staff of the Darby Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.

Tommy Moody, age 63, of Canton, GA, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Northside Hospital-Cherokee in Canton, GA.  A private memorial service will be held at a later date.  There will be no local visitation held.

Derotha E. Bagwell, 91 of Canton, GA passed away Tuesday April, 17, 2012 at Wildwood Healthcare Center in Jasper.  She was preceded in death by her husband, C.G. Bagwell.  Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 pm Thursday April 19, from the Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Ivan Watkins and Rev. Joey Stewart officiating.  She will be laid to rest in Macedonia Memorial Park.  Derotha was a long time employee of Canton Textile Mills, Weaver Room, both as a weaver and doing training of new hires.  She was one of the last employees to leave at the closing of the Mill.  She is survived by Daughter & Son-in-law, Kathryn & Olin Holtzclaw of Macedonia Community, Son & Daughter-in-law, Marshall & Annelle of Jerusalem Community.  Brother, Lester (Mary) Watkins, Canton; Sisters, Dorothy Vaughn, Canton; Ruby Green, Cave Springs; Myrtle Richards, Canton; Marie (Russell) Johnson, Bowden; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and long time friends.  The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
